    Cha-Cha Gitano
Two cartoon characters against a yellow background. On the left is a brown Latinx woman in big bouffant 60s hairdo, a mint-green mini-skirt, heavy makeup, and with three breasts. Next to her is Frank, a purple-skinned trans man, wearing a leather-daddy ensemble, showing off his handlebar moustache, hairy chest, and star-shaped nipples.

A new character joins Frank’s crew: Cha-Cha Gitano. Named after the song by Yma Sumac, and inspired by 60s Nichelle Nichols as the OG Uhura.

Like many sex workers in the story, Cha-Cha invested in body modifications years back to gain an edge, but she’s got a lot more going on than just her body and her looks.

The character has been taking shape in my mind the past few weeks and I finally got her down on paper in a way that worked for me. I gotta say, putting three breasts on a chest seemed very simple in my head, but actually drawing it so it looked right (subtle, but obvious once you noticed it) was trickier than I realized.

  • We Keep Us Safe

    We Keep Us Safe

I illustrated this version of Frank a couple years ago after some anti-trans violence (in Europe or the U.S.). Sadly there have been so many, I don’t recall what the specific event was. More than ever right now, we need to look after each other and fight back against all this anti-2SLGBTQ+ violence and erasure.

You deserve the world that’s in your vision, but you’ll have to fight for it every day. Truthfully, you have already been fighting. It probably took a lot for you to understand your identity, and even more if you’ve been able to share it with others. Lean into the fire, fight, and resilience that already lives inside you. I want you to be defiant. If there was ever a time to disobey, this is it. We are a creative, disruptive people who have never accepted silence.
